ABOUT AL PHILLIPS CLEANERS

Al Phillips Cleaners is the current iteration of the iconic Al Phillips the Cleaner brand: one of the oldest and best-known service brands in Las Vegas, and a worldwide legend in the dry cleaning, laundry, and garment care industry. We are one of the largest cleaners in the United States, and the largest in the State of Nevada.

Our history dates back over 60 years to the Golden Age of Las Vegas. In 1964, before moving to Hawaii, the original Al Phillips sold his dry cleaner in Commercial Center to brothers Melvin and Phillip Shapiro, two east coast businessmen heading west for opportunity. Over the next two decades, the Shapiros grew Al Phillips the Cleaner into a dry cleaning titan, pioneering for the industry concepts like drive-thrus and 24-hour service. The stores were frequented by celebrities including Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante, Sammy Davis Jr., and more. By the 1970’s and stretching into the 1980’s, Al Phillips the Cleaner was regarded as the busiest dry cleaner in the world.

The Shapiros eventually sold the company to a dry cleaning conglomerate in 1984, but stayed on for some years to continue running it. The business returned to private ownership in the late 2000’s under Advent Cleaners LLC, and also launched a sister brand, Thrift DLux. In 2023, Advent Cleaners LLC was acquired by Timeless Cleaners, Inc., a privately-owned dry cleaning firm founded by industry veteran Justin Koh. 

Though the brand has changed hands over the years, we retain the legacy, history, and commitment to service that goes all the way back to the Golden Age of Las Vegas. Many of our employees have been with us for decades!

After the acquisition by Timeless Cleaners, Inc., in the spirit of the original industry innovations pioneered by the Shapiro brothers, we began to introduce next-generation technologies to elevate the customer experience and upgrade our operations. In 2025, we began converting our twin brands Al Phillips the Cleaner and Thrift DLux into a single, streamlined brand under Al Phillips Cleaners. We also started the process of introducing automation into our stores that will eventually allow most of our locations to be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

Al Phillips Cleaners has been serving Las Vegas for well over half a lifetime, and we intend to be here serving your children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as we continue to lead the industry with innovation in elevated garment care.
